Corps Awards


Perfect Attendance This award is presented to cadets who maintain perfect attendance during the period of 1 October through 20 April inclusive.  A list is   prepared by the Ships Office from weekly attendance records.  Certificates are presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Charles E. Hill Memorial Award for Citizenship This Award and a $100.00 grant is presented to a cadet who not only makes a worthwhile contribution to cadet work, but also to school, church and community endeavors.  This Award acknowledges the accomplishments of an all-around citizen. The recipient of this Award is selected by the Corps Officers based on resumes submitted by the cadets. This award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Scholastic Award This Award is presented to the cadet in each rank group who achieves the highest mark on their promotional exam during the current training year.  Recipients are designated by the Training Officer.  These Awards are presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Best Divisional Petty Officer (DPO) This Award is presented to the Divisional Petty Officer (DPO) who demonstrates an outstanding level of dress and deportment and demonstrates excellence in leadership and power of command abilities.  This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Best Division This Award is determined by the "Cock-of-the-Walk" competition, which is held 1 October through 20 April of each training year.  Each division is awarded pointes for various activities including inspection, Marchpast and attendance at weekly parades and special weekend activities and parades.  Recipients are determined by the total points awarded throughout the training year.  This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Proficient New Entry This award is presented to a first year cadet who has not had any previous cadet experience and who demonstrates excellent interest, enthusiasm, attendance, dress, conduct and scholastic achievements throughout the training year.  This award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Outstanding Ex-Navy League Cadet This Award is presented to a cadet who is a former Navy League Cadet and who has completed his/her first year with Sea Cadets.  The Award is intended to recognize the cadet who has progressed from Navy League Cadets to Sea Cadets and has made the necessary adjustments in an outstanding manner.  This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Alberta Division Proficiency Award This Award is presented to a first year, Ordinary Cadet (OC) or second year, Able Cadet (AB) in recognition of outstanding participation and perseverance in all aspects of cadet training.  This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet, and includes a Medallion presented by the Navy League of Canada, Alberta Division.
Most Improved Cadet This Award is presented to a cadet holding any rank, who has shown the most improvement in the past year in all areas of cadet training, dress, deportment and enthusiasm. This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Enthusiastic Cadet This Award is presented to a cadet holding any rank, who works hard for himself and the Corps and shows great enthusiasm and spirit in all tasks he undertakes. This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Outstanding Bandsman This Award is presented to a cadet who is a band member that shows the most consistent effort in musicianship, dress, deportment, punctuality, attendance and general attitude. This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Improved Bandsman This Award is presented to a cadet who is a band member that shows the most improvement in all aspects of band training, performance and showmanship. This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Outstanding Guardsman This Award is presented to a cadet who is a guard member, that shows the greatest proficiency in parade and rifle drill and who demonstrates a superior standard of dress, deportment, attendance, and enthusiasm with respect to guard training and parades. This Award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Range Award This Award is presented to a cadet who demonstrates the highest proficiency in Corps range activities during the training year.  Recipient determined by the Range Safety Officer (RSO).  This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Most Improved Marksman This Award is presented to a cadet showing the most improvement in all areas of range activities.  Recipient determined by the Range Safety Officer. This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Headquarters Award This Award is presented to a cadet who is a member of the Headquarters division and is employed in a Staff Cadet position within the Corps.  This cadet must have executed his duties with interest, enthusiasm, and proficiency.  This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Training Award This Award is presented to a staff cadet, employed as an instructor, who demonstrates superior abilities in Instructional Technique.  Leadership and an overall knowledge of the Training Department.  This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Best Junior NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) This Award is presented to a cadet who is a junior NCO (LC, QPO2, or PO2) that demonstrates an outstanding level of dress and deportment as well as showing excellent leadership and power of command abilities.  This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
McGowan Memorial Trophy for Best Senior NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) This Award is presented to a cadet who is a senior NCO, is outstanding in dress, deportment, and knowledge.  This cadet must also have the ability and willingness to work with cadets and possess power of command abilities.  This Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet.
Cadet of the Year This Award is presented to a cadet holding any rank, that is outstanding in all respects.  This cadet must excel in carrying out all duties while maintaining a superior standard of dress and deportment and by encouraging others to do the same.  Awarded on parade at our Annual Ceremonial Review.



The Duke of Edinburgh Award


Participation is voluntary.  Founded in Britain in 1956 on the premise that young people growing up in an industrialized society have many difficulties for personal achievement.  The Award was designed to stimulate and encourage self reliance and discipline, perseverance and determination, initiative and creativity, community responsibility and fitness of body and mind.
